A native Brandonite, Bonk was a leader with the Bobcats Men’s Hockey team from (1968-1970, 1971-1972, 1973-1974).
Bruce was among a group of former Brandon Wheat Kings players to join the Bobcats after their junior eligibility and make an immediate impact on the team.
As a highly touted and gifted athlete, Bruce’s colourful, hustling style of play made him a fan and team favorite.
Bruce has been described by his teammates and colleagues as being a tough, durable, dependable type of player who could put the puck in the net and the opposition on the seat of their pants!
After Bruce’s college career, the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League expressed interest in his playing services, but Bruce chose to pursue his current profession and passion of teaching in Brandon.
