Murray Zuk earned an undergrad degree from Brandon University in 1960 and was a multi-sport athlete during his time on campus. Zuk played on the Brandon College Caps hockey team for four years and served as team manager in his final season. He also had one year of bowling under his belt, spent three seasons playing inter-year softball and served as football equipment manager for two years.
Zuk was also an outstanding student in the classroom and in terms of extra -curricular commitment. The product of Hamiota, Manitoba was class president of BU's Education students, earning his Education degree in the spring of 1961, also serving on that year's Athletic Executive Board.
After graduation, Zuk was involved in the faculty of education and served on the advisory council for over a decade and was also a member of the Brandon University Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee for three years.
Zuk's stellar sports resume isn't limited to the field of play, but also includes his contributions as an official, coach and administrator in his time after leaving Brandon College. He was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999 where he played, coached and umpired in the province.
His experience also extends to the Major Leagues of Baseball. He is Canada's longest serving pro baseball scout, having worked with the Cincinnati Reds for 28 years, along with the Atlanta Braves and currently the San Diego Padres. He was also 2013 winner of the Canadian Baseball Network's Jim Ridley memorial award as scout of the year.
A lifelong educator, Zuk helped shape the minds of thousands of young people in the community of Souris, where he was Principal for 28 years.
