Verda graced Brandon College for five years as a multi-sport and multi-talented leader.  Verda quickly established herself as a top athlete in college n the sport of Track and Field and Basketball. 

In Track and Field, Verda won may ribbons and still holds the record in Broad Jump.  In Basketball, Verda led the Capettes each year and was recognized by the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the YMCA Basketball Queens.

During her athletic years, Verda was also a cheerleader each year.  Verda also went on to coach Track and Field, Basketball, and the Cheerleaders.  
Much like her husband Dick, is a proud supporter of Bobcat Athletics, by both being a fan and a financial contributer throught the "Dick and Verda McDonald Bursary".

In 1955, Verda was Brandon College’s Lady Stick and secretary (positions within the Brandon College Student’s Union).  To this end, Verda co-chaired the 2005 BU Homecoming (her 50th anniversary).  Verda was also a member of the BU Alumni Association for seven years and is a Past President.
 
Verda was a model student athlete at Brandon College.  During her time here, she won many scholarships in college and was inducted into the president’s honour society upon graduation.
 
Professionally, Verda had a successful career as a teacher in Dauphin and Brandon.
 
Verda’s community involvement also includes leadership positions with the Fairview Nursing Home, where she was a Board member for 7 years (including one year as chair) and the Brandon School Instrumental Music Association, where she was also a Board member for 7 years (including one as chair).
