Brandon University Athletics

The Brandon University Bobcats have always been guided by the fundamental principles of excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community. These values have helped shape the performance of individual teams and athletes over the years and have informally guided the entire varsity athletic program at BU.
 
Under new leadership in 2012, the department developed a mission statement and values that set the direction for the program. Since then BU Athletics has grown and continued to evolve – added teams, increased investments in high performance sport, increased emphasis to the pursuit of academic achievement and a commitment to our community as leaders in sport.
 
In summer of 2019, the department undertook a strategic planning process to determine a new mission statement, vision and values to guide the program for the next three years – a roadmap that will guide the work and efforts of all athletes, coaches and staff as we enter the next phase of competition.
 
In consultation with various stakeholders by interviews, informal discussions and focus groups, the newly established mission, vision and values are in line with the core tenets that have always guided the program, and continue to do so with new energy, optimism, and enthusiasm for the future.
 
The following document outlines the new priorities and vision for the Bobcats and will direct how we market the program, how we recruit new athletes, sponsors and fans, and how we operate on a daily basis as an elite varsity athletic program.

We will collectively work together as a unit to:

• increase academic accomplishments (overall GPA, degrees, academic awards, publications, etc).
• more wins, conference championships, nationals berths, individual awards.
• more community outreach as leaders and experts in sport.
• dispel negative pre-conceptions of athletes on campus.
