JADE BARRAULT joined the BU women’s soccer team under unassuming conditions, but quickly changed that in her first four games. At just 5-foot-3, the Portage la Prairie, Man. product has made a big impact on the playing field.
The diminutive defensive player has made a habit of running down opponents and forcing turnovers on the defensive end, often times with lightning-quick speed and precision.
According to her coach, Barrault’s on-field abilities are matched by her positive attitude and work ethic.
“Jade really exemplifies everything I enjoy about coaching this group,” says Bobcats coach Rainer Schira. “She has been asked to play a position that is new to her, and has set to pour everything she has into it. She is a whirlwind on the field, unbelievably fast and utterly determined to never let a player by her with the ball. She's generous with herself too. She’s always asking questions, giving ideas, and making others laugh.”
Barrault has played every minute of the Bobcats season thus far, partly due to a lack of experience at the position, but mostly because of her tireless work ethic.
On the defensive end, Barrault’s stats don’t compare with some of the offensive players, but when it came time to pick an athlete of the month, her teammates chose Barrault as the unanimous pick.
“Her level of ability continues to develop, as again and again she has popped up on defence and stopped the opposition,” adds Schira “She gives the entire team a feeling of safety and security behind them. If something goes wrong, Jade fixes it.”
Barrault is currently enrolled in BU’s Bachelor of Physical Education Studies program.
