SEBASTIEN STEIGMEIER’s play in January has been on track with the rest of his career as a Bobcat. In two words it can be defined as “simply spectacular”.
The 6-foot-7 right side has helped the Bobcats to a 6-2 record in the month of January, all of those matches against fellow Canada West teams ranked in the CIS top 10.
The “Swiss Superman”, as he has become to be known, averaged 3.5 kills per set in January, not far off his season average of 3.68 kills per set.
Steigmeier was especially dominant in his 31.5 point performance on January 17 vs the UBC Thunderbirds. He also earned a career-high 26 kills that night for a single conference match.
His performance in January also extended his team lead in kills to 313, which puts him fourth in the conference individual standings in kills.
Most importantly, Steigmeier has been a potent offensive weapon on a deep Bobcats roster that has already shattered the program’s previous best record. This year’s team is 17-5, which has already set a new team best for wins in a season with two matches to go.
“There were times in the past month where Sebastien put the team on his back. He was dominating from the service line, and devastating while attacking, and really at certain times he carried our team,” says coach Grant Wilson.
Steigmeier and the Bobcats will conclude the 2014-15 Canada West regular season on the road this weekend against the UBC-Okanagan Heat. The Bobcats have clinched a play-off spot and will host a first round series. Date and time of the Canada West playoffs will be announced following this Saturday’s final regular season contest.
