VICTORIA DAKIN is winding down her career as a Bobcat, but she’s been winding up her play for the past month. The Calgary product has been playing some of the best volleyball of her career lately, earning her Smitty’s Sportsline Lounge Female Athlete of the Month honours for January.
The 6-foot right side hitter celebrated senior’s night festivities last Saturday, capping a successful career as a Bobcat. It also represented a stellar performance in January, highlighted by multiple double-double performances and helping the Bobcats clinch a playoff spot for the second consecutive year.
Dakin had double-double performances in five of eight matches in January, helping the team to a 5-3 record for the month.
“Tori has been our biggest offensive weapon this month,” says Bobcats coach Lee Carter. “She’s been our most consistent player in some very important matches. She’s playing some of the best volleyball of her career right now and it’s great to see. She works hard and it’s nice to recognize her for that.”
Dakin and the Bobcats will close out the regular season this weekend against a familiar foe. The Bobcats will travel to Kelowna to play the UBC-Okanagan Heat, the team that knocked BU out of the playoffs in the first round last season.
The BU women’s team has clinched a playoff spot in the Canada West quarter-finals the weekend of February 13-14, but the time and location is to be determined following this Saturday’s regular season finale against UBC-Okanagan in Kelowna.
