Nolan Melanson concluded a spectacular freshman season by putting up impressive performances in October, highlighted by a record-tying performance. Melanson exploded for five goals against the Assiniboine Community College Cougars on October 16, securing the Bobcats third-straight Prowler Cup title.
For his efforts, Melanson earned his first MCAC Athlete of the Week nod, an award that came as no surprise to the coaching staff.
“As a first year player, Nolan entered this season with high expectations placed on him,” says men’s soccer coach Jesse Roziere. “He lived up to those expectations as he had a fantastic month in October and a great season. He played a crucial part in our final push for a playoff spot, and played a huge role scoring two goals in the final game of the season to knock off the previously undefeated Red River Rebels.”
Melanson’s five-goals tied the school record for most goals in a game set by Vas Giannopoulos back on September 27, 2014. Melanson added to his season total by potting two more goals in the final game of the season against Red River to bring his season total to 11, which led the Bobcats in goals on the season.
Melanson and the Bobcats finished outside the playoff picture, dropping the tie-breaker for the final spot to Providence.
