When Mike Knox
arrived in Brandon, soccer was almost an afterthought to his academic pursuit. After joining the Bobcat men's soccer team in September his experience, both on the field and off, has been an incredible asset to a young Bobcats squad.
The product of Toronto, by way of Norway House, Man. where he has been teaching the past few years, has experience in both post-secondary education and sport. Knox was a conference all-star at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, and has been a teacher and coach in Norway House, where the experience he gained has translated to a leadership role with the Bobcats.
"Mike has come into a young program and a young group with a wealth of experience. He has taken great pride in leading and mentoring the players in this program both on and off the field," says coach
Jesse Roziere. "The standards he sets for himself and the team are always being set higher, which motivates himself to push to find a new level every day."
His hard work and leadership has led to him scoring a pair of goals in MCAC conference play, and he's helped the Bobcats to a 2-3-1 record.
Roziere says what's more important is the influence he has on the younger players on the roster.
"Mike has scored very important goals this season, and fearlessly leads our team from the front line. His impact in this program will be felt for years to come. He is the type of player and the type of person that you want influencing your team environment," Roziere adds.
