Bobcats unable to keep pace with the Huskies

Box Score BRANDON - The No. 5 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies got off to a quick start and would maintain their lead throughout the game to defeat the Brandon University Bobcats 88-60 Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
 
Saskatchewan started the game on a 19-0 run and finished the first quarter shooting 63% from the field. Brandon would eventually break the run on a Cassie Cooke three-pointer with 2:17 remaining to get on the scoreboard.
 
Saskatchewan improves to 4-0 and sits alone in first place in the Canada West with the win, Brandon drops to 0-4 with the loss.
 
Kiera Lyons led the early charge with nine points in the opening 10 minutes to give Saskatchewan a 21-5 lead.
 
Brandon would cut into the Huskie lead with a 10-2 run of their own to start the second, pulling to within eight. Both teams would begin to stretch the floor with outside shooting in the quarter. The Huskies hit 2-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc, while the Bobcats were a perfect 3-for-3.
 
Despite the improved shooting by Brandon in the second quarter, the Huskies still held a 39-25 lead at halftime.
 
Saskatchewan came out of the locker room and increased their lead to 22 points with a 12-4 run to start the third. Despite committing eight turnovers in the quarter the home team held a 59-46 advantage heading to the fourth.
 
The Huskies would extend their lead in the final quarter en route to their fourth straight win.
 
Lyons and forward Dalyce Emmerson would both score 19 on the night to lead Saskatchewan. Emmerson recorded a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. Kabree Howard dished out six assists to go along with 13 points.
 
Cooke scored a game-high 30 points for the Bobcats on 11-of-25 shooting including a 4-for-8 performance from three-point range. Aleah Bridges added 12 points and three assists, while Stephanie Haynes led Brandon in rebounds with four.
 
Saskatchewan's bench outscored the substitutes for the Bobcats 44-4 in the contest.
 
The Huskies hit the road next weekend to take on provincial rival the Regina Cougars. Brandon returns home to face the Alberta Pandas.
