BRANDON – The Trinity Western Spartans picked up their first win of the season on the road against the Brandon Bobcats 80-71 Friday night.
Four Spartans finished in double-digit scoring, led by Justin Bakuteka's team-high 18 points. Bakuteka also had a team-high nine rebounds. Jesse Jeffers put up 16 points while Taylor Heinrichs added 13 points, thanks to going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Tyus Allen finished with 12 points and nine assists to go along with six rebounds.
The Bobcats were led by DJ Jordan's game-high 19 points, while
Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak and Earl Thompson Jr both put up 16 points, with Benabdelhak contributing nine rebounds as well.
The win move Trinity Western's record to 1-6, while Brandon remains winless at 0-7.
The two teams will meet again in the second game of the weekend series on Saturday in Brandon. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
