A close first quarter wasn't enough as the host Regina Cougars picked up a 101-54 win over the Brandon Bobcats Friday night at the University of Regina's Centre for Kineisiology, Health and Sport.
Alyssia Kajati matched her career high with 24 points and the University of Regina's women's basketball team led from start to finish.
Â
Kajati was 12-for-16 from the field to lead all scorers, while four other Cougars also hit double figures in points. Jennilea Coppola had 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double, while
Katie Polischuk scored 12, Sara Hubenig had a career-high 12 points, and Charlotte Kot finished with 10.
The win improves Regina's winning streak to seven as the Cougars improve their Canada West record to 7-2 on the season.
The Cougars outscored Brandon by an 18-10 margin in the first quarter, then blew the game wide open in the second. An 8-0 run sparked by Kajati pushed the lead to 17 midway through the quarter, then the Cougars scored the last 12 points of the half to take a 49-22 lead into the break.
Brandon never threatened in the second half, putting together a short 6-0 run to get to within 23 in the third quarter but could draw no closer.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off will again be at 6 p.m.
