Bobcats drop second straight to Cougars

BRANDON - The Brandon University men's basketball team bounced back with a much stronger performance in their rematch against the Regina Cougars, but could not find the end result they were hoping for on Saturday night at the Healthy Living Centre.

Jonathan Tull poured in a game-high 29 points to lead Regina to an 87-73 victory over Brandon after taking Friday's season opener 104-75.

The Bobcats and Cougars went toe-to-toe in the first quarter with Regina leading 22-21, and going into half-time the Cougars had a six-point advantage.

The two sides traded momentum swings in the third, before Regina started to run away with it in the fourth as they improved their Canada West record to 2-and-0.

D.J. Jordan was the top scorer for Brandon with 25 points, while Chris Stanhope scored 11 points and Earl Thompson Jr. grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Bobcats sit at 0-and-2 to start their season and will look to find the win column this coming weekend when they pay a visit to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

BU men's coach Gil Cheung felt his team showed character to close out the weekend series against their long-time rivals from Regina.
