Bobcats fall to Huskies

SASKATOON – With strong offensive first and third quarters, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies swept the visiting Brandon University Bobcats after a 79-50 win Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
 
The Huskies opened the game strong outscoring the Bobcats 21-9 in the first quarter. Brandon matched the Huskies 15 points in the second quarter to sit down 12 at halftime, 36-24. But Saskatchewan found its offence again outscoring the Bobcats by 11 in the third frame to build a 23-point lead heading into the final quarter.
 
Saskatchewan shot 38.5% in the game, while the Bobcats shot at 29.7%. The Bobcats had trouble from beyond the arc making just three of its 21 attempts. The Huskies sunk 10. Brandon also had trouble from the line shooting, just 40.9% on free throws.
 
Four different Huskies tallied double-digits in the game including Jaylan Morgan with a game-high 19 points. Fifth-year Matthew Forbes recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Chan De Ciman scored 12 and Shane Osayande another 10.
 
Chris Stanhope led the Bobcats with 11 points, while Tyvon Cooper sunk another 10 off the bench. John Paul led the Bobcats with eight rebounds.
 
With the weekend sweep, the Huskies improve to 4-2 in the Canada West men's basketball standings. Brandon drops to 2-4.  A night earlier, the Huskies won 95-60.
 
The Huskies will enjoy a bye next week, while the Bobcats return to Brandon for a home-and-home series with the Winnipeg Wesmen.
