BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats fell 81-70 against the undefeated Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday night at the Healthy Living Centre in Canada West women's basketball action.
The Wesmen held the early advantage with leads of 16-10 and 20-14 over the Bobcats. BU closed the gap, but trailed 22-18 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Wesmen went right to work with a quick 6-0 run to hold a 30-25 advantage. Winnipeg went into the halftime break with a 44-35 lead.
The Bobcats got behind by 14 early in the third quarter and trailed 62-53 going into the fourth.
Brandon battled back and narrowed the gap to 75-66 with 2:22 remaining, but that is as close as the Bobcats would get.
Antoinette Miller led the way with a game-high 24 points as the Wesmen improved their perfect conference record to 8-and-0.
Adrianna Proulx had a strong performance in a losing cause for the Bobcats with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds.
Kinsley Ransom and
Lauren Anderson both added 12 points for BU, who saw their record slip to 2-and-6.
Brandon is back on home court this coming weekend as they welcome the Fraser Valley Cascades in their final contests before the holiday break.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg will look to continue their winning ways against the Manitoba Bisons. The cross-city rivals start a home-and-home series on Thursday at the U-of-M.
