BRANDON - The Brandon Bobcats fell in straight sets against the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre in Canada West men's volleyball action.

The set scores were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-23.

Mount Royal rolled to a 16-9 lead at the technical timeout of the first set after a 5-0 run.

The Cougars would chalk up the first set in their favour, despite a late push from the Bobcats.

The two sides went back and forth in the second set with the contest tied 20-20.

Mount Royal then took five of the next seven points to push Brandon to the brink for the second straight night.

The third set followed the same trend as the second with the Bobcats and Cougars tied 10-10 and 14-14, before Brandon grabbed a 16-14 advantage at the technical timeout.

The Bobcats held the edge 23-22 late in the third, before Mount Royal rallied with three straight points to complete the weekend sweep.

Mount Royal is now at the .500 mark with a record of 10-and-10, while Brandon slips to 5-and-15.

Tyler Schmidt and Jordan Parkin provided a 1-2 offensive punch for the Cougars with both players racking up 17 kills apiece for Mount Royal.

Josh Kirkham added seven blocks and Jonathan Phillips had nine digs, both were match highs for the Cougars.

Roy Ching led the charge with nine kills and eight digs for the Bobcats, while teammate
David Stasica topped the match with 32 assists.

Brandon will visit the Manitoba Bisons this coming weekend, while Mount Royal welcomes the Winnipeg Wesmen.
