Bobcats make quick work of Cougars

BRANDON – The Brandon University Bobcats cruised to a straight sets win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in Canada West men's volleyball action at the Healthy Living Centre.

The set scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15.

Roy Ching finished just shy of a double-double with nine kills and nine digs as the Bobcats boosted their record to 9-and-5.

Brandon had a balanced offensive attack with Elliot Viles notching eight kills and Seth Friesen finishing with seven kills. James Weir was next with five kills, while also being involved in seven blocks for BU.

Regina's top scorer was P.J. Seekings, who scored nine kills as the Cougars slipped to 0-and-14.

In the first set, the Bobcats had a 5-0 run that pushed their lead to 19-10. That cushion over the Cougars was good enough to give Brandon the nod in the opening set.

Brandon started the second set with four straight points as they continued to push the pace. The Bobcats built more momentum as an 8-0 run gave them even more breathing room. The home side held a 21-9 advantage at that point and they sat firmly in the drivers seat going into the third set.

The Bobcats again answered the bell in the third. An impressive 14-3 run turned a 4-4 tie into a 17-7 lead in favour of BU, who swept Regina for the second straight day.

Up next, Brandon will head to Edmonton this coming weekend to meet the MacEwan Griffins, while Regina returns home to welcome the Winnipeg Wesmen.
