Bobcats bounce Cougars for weekend sweep

BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats made it a weekend sweep and six straight sets over the Regina Cougars with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-21) win Saturday evening.

After dropping the first set Friday, and being pushed to extra points in the first set Saturday, the Bobcats settled in and won six sets in a row to improve to 4-10 in conference play on the season.

A 5-0 run in the first set gave BU a 12-8 lead, but Regina battled back late in the set to tie it 23-23. Regina had a 24-23 lead before Brandon fought off two set points.  An ace from Danielle Larocque gave BU the first set by a score of 28-26.

The second set saw the two teams trade points before the Bobcats went on a 7-2 run to take a 19-14 lead before closing it out.

The third set was even early, as the two teams were neck and neck until three straight points from Brandon ended the set and the match.

Brandon was led by Nikala Majewski's match-high 12 kills. Majewski also added 10 digs, while Gillian Leech had a team-high 17.

Diana Lumbala paced the Cougars with 11 kills, while Taylor Ungar had 18 digs

Brandon takes a moderate two-match winning streak into a road trip to Edmonton for a pair of matches against the MacEwan Griffins next weekend.

The Cougars will welcome the Winnipeg Wesmen for a weekend series as the two teams look to avoid sitting at the bottom of the Canada West standings.
