Bobcats beat by #3 ranked Cougars

BRANDON – The #3 Regina Cougars continued their hot play of late, extending their win streak to six games by beating the Brandon Bobcats 75-55 Saturday night.

The margin of victory wasn't as big as Friday, but Regina took the lead early in the second quarter and managed to hang on.

After leading 32-25 at the half, Brandon fought back early in the second half, getting within three points mid-way through the third quarter.

The Bobcats battled back to within eight points in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars followed that up with back-to-back threes from Polischuk and Kyanna Giles to extend the lead and put it out of reach.

Both teams were effective from the free-throw line, and both teams shot 32 per cent from the floor. The difference was that Regina managed more shots, and hit timely shots to secure the win.

Regina's Kyanna Giles had a career-high 25 points to lead the Cougars. Katie Polischuk saw a decrease in court time after subbing out in the second after getting tangled up under the basket and going down favoring her lower leg. Polischuk still managed 29 minutes while putting up 14 points. Christina McCusker also had a solid night finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.

Keisha Cox had a double-double (18 points and 11 rebounds) for the Bobcats and  Amy Williams finished in double figures as well, putting up 11 points.

The win improves Regina's record to 12-2 while the Bobcas fall two games below .500 at 7-9.

Up next for the Cougars is a pair of games at home next weekend against the Calgary Dinos. Brandon will travel to Vancouver to take on the UBC Thunderbirds next weekend.
