WINNIPEG - Despite jumping to a 2-0 match lead the Bobcats couldn't hold on to beat the host Winnipeg Wesmen on Tuesday evening. The Wesmen made a late surge to pick up the 3-2 (21-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-9) win in the first leg of the home and home series.
Brandon swept aside the hosts 25-21, 25-18 to take a 2-0 advantage. Winnipeg looked like they had little energy in the tank before they stormed back to take the third set 25-18. They kept it rolling in the fourth, pushing the Cats aside 25-17. The fifth and deciding set was over early and the Wesmen cruised to a 15-9 advantage to take the match three sets to two. Overall it was an exciting match that saw multiple long rallies to set up the return engagement in Brandon on Friday.
David Bommersbach led the Wesmen with 14 kills; Adrian Dyck added 9, with many coming in the 4th and 5th sets; setter Mikael Clegg had 26 assists.
For the Bobcats, Seth Friesen had a match high 18 kills; Elliot Viles was next with 13.
The teams will close out the Canada West season this Friday in Brandon, first serve is 7:45.
