Bobcats season ends in game 3 thriller

The Bobcats women's basketball team dropped game 3 of their Canada West Play-In Series to the host Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday by a score of 67-60, ending the Bobcats season.

A slow start to the second half plagued the Bobcats, but they battled back in the fourth quarter to a deficit of three points in the last minute before the Spartans were able to put it away.

The Bobcats turned the ball over 20 times in the game, which led to 28 points for Trinity.

Amy Williams had a team-high 18 points for the Bobcats, while Keisha Cox had 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Bobcats jumped to an early 9-3 before Trinity responded and took an 18-15 at the end of the first quarter.

A strong second quarter from the Spartans pushed their lead to 10 points in the second quarter at 27-17 before Brandon reduced the lead to just seven at the half.

The Spartans had a strong third quarter for the second night in a row, to take a 55-43 lead into the fourth quarter.

Trinity extended its lead to 61-47 early in the fourth, but the Bobcats battled back with a 13-2 run that put them three points with 46 seconds to play. Trinity's Tessa Ratzlaff responded with the game's final four points to seal the win for the Spartans.

The loss ends the most successful season for the Bobcats since joining the Canada West conference. The team's 8-12 record in conference play is the most wins in a season since joining the conference in 1999, and the Game 1 win marks the program's first playoff win since joining the conference as well.
