Cougars set record against Bobcats

REGINA, Sask. – The University of Regina's women's basketball team set a program record for most points scored in a single game on Friday night, putting up an impressive 118-51 win over Brandon at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars could simply do no wrong on Friday, scoring 25 of the game's first 27 points and shooting just under 55% from the field. They connected from three-point range all night long, finishing 14-for-28 from downtown.

Kyanna Giles was everywhere for the Cougars in the win, finishing with a game-high 25 points while also collecting nine rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Giles was 9-for-13 from the field and also hit all four of her three-pointers.

The Cougars also had a big game off the bench by Carolina Goncalves, who finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Four other Regina players hit double figures in scoring, including Charlotte Kot with 18 points and Kyia Giles, Michaela Kleisinger, and Caitlin Zacharias all with 11. Like her twin sister, Kyia Giles was perfect from three-point range as she hit all three of her attempts from beyond the arc.

The win improves Regina's record to 14-1 on the season and pushes the U of R's winning streak to nine games. The Cougars now have the best conference record in Canada West thanks to Trinity Western sneaking out a 69-68 win over Saskatchewan on Friday night in Saskatoon.

Brandon (2-13) was led by Lauren Anderson's 12 points.

The Cougars and the Bobcats will close out the weekend series on Saturday night at the CKHS. Game time is again set for 6:00, and will be featured as the free Canada West Game of the Week at www.canadawest.tv.

NOTES: The U of R's previous record for most points in one game had stood for almost 27 years ... the old mark was set back on Feb. 16, 1991 in a 111-56 home win over Brandon.
