Huskies out-gun Bobcats

BRANDON – The Saskatchewan Huskies proved why they are one of the top teams in the Canada West conference and country by beating the host Brandon Bobcats 91-76 in a rare afternoon contest at the BU Healthy Living Centre.

Four Huskies finished in double-digit scoring in front of a loud and raucous crowd as the Bobcats welcomed over 800 school-aged children.

The crowd didn't deter the Huskies' hot shooting, as they managed 42 per cent from beyond the arc in the first half to run away with their sixth win of seven contests in 2018.

The Huskies now sit at 15-2 in conference standings.

While the Huskies shot the ball well early it didn't last, as they only shot 1-for-12 in the second half from downtown, but managed to hold off the surging 'Cats. Brandon outscored the Huskies in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late for the homeside.

Sabine Dukate had 20 points for the Huskies and added four assists while Summer Masikewich and Libby Epoch both poured in 18. Megan Lindquist added 10 points while Megan Ahlstrom finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

The Bobcats were led by Keisha Cox's team-high 20 points while Adrianna Proulx added 14 points off the bench in her first game of the second half of the season. Proulx missed the last six games due to injury and will be looking to finish the season strong as the Bobcats graduate six players at the end of this season.

Cox, Mikaela Stanton, Kinsley Ransom, Keegan Robinson, Stephanie Hunter and Amy Williams will play their final home games as Bobcats on Saturday night.

Friday's loss drops Brandon's record to 2-15 on the season.

Tip-off in Saturday's contest is set for 5 p.m. and can be seen live on www.canadawest.tv.
