Timely turnovers hurt Bobcats

BRANDON, Man. – The Winnipeg Wesmen beat the host Brandon Bobcats 83-79 Saturday night to pick up the series sweep.

The win moves Winnipeg's record to .500 at 3-3 early in the conference season while the Bobcats remain winless at 0-4.

Thursday night's contest was close from start to finish. Saturday saw the Wesmen jump to a 10 point lead mid-way through the third quarter, a lead the Bobcats were able to cut into but not overcome.

Timely turnovers plagued the Bobcats, as the Wesmen capitalized and scored 27 points off turnovers.

Don Dayrit and Spas Nikolov both contributed 23 points for the Wesmen while Shawn Maranan wasn't far behind with 19.

Bobcat sophomore Anthony Tsegakele finished with a double-double, recording team-highs in points (21) and rebounds (14). Jahmaal Gardner finished with 15 points (on four-for-seven shooting from beyond the arc.

The Wesmen are now on an extended break, not seeing conference action for three weeks when the team heads back to Brandon for another home-and-home series that gets underway on Dec. 2.

The Bobcats will travel to Winnipeg in two weeks time to play the Manitoba Bisons for the first time in conference play this season.
