Bobcats bounce Bisons to earn weekend sweep

BRANDON, Man. – The Brandon Bobcats picked up a crucial home victory to earn the weekend sweep of the Manitoba Bisons, winning 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 15-11) Saturday night at the BU Healthy Living Centre.

The Bobcats were pushed to the brink in the fourth but managed to turn the tables in the fourth, as Rayvn Wiebe scored the final two points to seal the win, sending the Bobcats into the December break.

"I think we're just starting to trust each other," says Wiebe. "Even when we drop a couple of sets we know we have it in us to come back and win the next one, and so it's just that trust and that camaraderie it's there now."

Wiebe was electric all night, leading the Bobcats in kills (14) and aces (three) and finished with five total blocks.

Caitlin Le had a season-high 26 digs and a rare kill, as the fourth-year libero smartly called her own number in the third set and gave the Bobcats the lead at 18-17.

Taryn Hannah had another impressive performance, as the rookie outside finished with 11 kills and 10 digs.

Light Uchechukwu had a great performance for the Bisons, leading all players with 27 points, including a match-high 24 kills.

Ella Gray had a double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs, while Angela Lawrence finished with 20 digs.

The win sends the Bobcats into the holiday break with a 4-2 record, good for second in the Canada West east division standings.

The Bisons move to 2-4 on the season and get set to head home to welcome the Regina Cougars for a weekend series starting next Friday, which is also the team's final conference competition of 2021.
