Huskies outlast Bobcats in marathon match

SASKATOON— It was a thriller inside the PAC on Friday night as the Huskie men's volleyball team (4-5) played out a dramatic five set victory (18-25, 25-20, 29-27, 21-25, 15-13) over the visiting Brandon University Bobcats (3-5). With the victory, the Huskies extend their win-streak to three games.

The Huskies looked fresh despite this being their first game in over a month against a strong Brandon Bobcats side.

Dylan Mortensen had a game-high 29 kills for Saskatchewan, whilst also leading the Huskies in aces (1) and blocks (3, tied with Luke Wandzura and Quinn Buchanan). Mortensen's service ace in the third set put the Huskies ahead 2-1 after a marathon 29-27 set.

Fourth-year setter Jake Rapin led both teams with 58 assists on the night.

The Huskies ended the night with a 29.9 kill percentage, while the Bobcats held a 25.4 kill percentage. The Bobcats were dominant in the first set hitting 85.7. Additionally, the Bobcats totalled a game-high seven aces.

The Bobcats Brazilian powerhouse Joao Cunha tallied a game-high six blocks on the night.

The Huskies will be back in action Saturday, January 15th at 5:00pm, where they will take on the Brandon Bobcats again at the PAC. The game can be watched live on CanadaWest.TV.
