The Brandon University Bobcats are once again MCAC Women's Soccer Champions! The top-seeded Bobcats completed their undefeated home season in the most spectacular fashion, capturing the conference title with a gritty 3-0 shutout victory over the Providence Pilots at the HLC Field this afternoon.
This victory marks the third consecutive MCAC championship for the women's program, confirming the team's status as a true dynasty and securing their place at the CCAA National Championship.
Hoad Breaks the Deadlock
The final was a tense, physical affair in the first half, a true championship battle where quality chances were hard to come by. Both defenses held firm, with Providence keeper Blake Foster making several key saves.
However, the Bobcats finally broke through in the dramatic final seconds of the first half. A well-worked attack was finished by star striker Jorja Hoad (assisted by Keashae Masters), putting the Bobcats up 1-0 just before the whistle. That critical goal provided a huge surge of momentum heading into the locker room.
Insurance Goals Seal the Title
Coming out in the second half, the Bobcats maintained offensive pressure while leaning on their formidable defense. The decisive moment came in the 66th minute when the Bobcats doubled their lead. Midfielder Kenadie Janzen provided a perfect pass to Mackenzie Boyes, who finished cleanly to make the score 2-0 and provide crucial breathing room.
The final goal came deep into extra time, as Abby-Jo Wark capitalized on a final push (assisted by Brogan Henry) to cap off the 3-0 victory and begin the championship celebrations.
Keeper Josie Black was fantastic, commanding the box and securing the shutout with four saves. The entire defensive unit was exceptional in limiting Providence's opportunities across the 90 minutes.
The Women's team will now prepare to represent the MCAC at the CCAA National Championships!
