The Brandon University Bobcats men's soccer team completed a successful weekend sweep at home by defeating the Assiniboine Cougars 3-1 at the HLC field on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Bobcats' season record to 7-2-0.
The Bobcats wasted no time establishing control, scoring all three of their goals in a dominant first half.
First Half Dominance (3-1) The offense ignited early when Camilo Rodriguez successfully converted a penalty kick (7:32), setting the tone for the match. Just minutes later, TJ Bodunrin doubled the lead (13:25). Midfielder Matt Wolfe continued the scoring streak, finding the back of the net to make it 3-0 (19:12).
The Cougars managed to pull one back against the run of play with a penalty kick of their own from Jafet Sandoval (28:03), ending the first half with the Bobcats leading 3-1.
Second Half Control (0-0) The second half saw a more subdued pace with both defenses tightening up. The Bobcats maintained their two-goal cushion, relying on strong midfield play and dependable goalkeeping from Zsombor Deak, who made a crucial save in the second half to deny any comeback hopes. The Bobcats outshot the Cougars 21-6 overall (11-2 on target), controlling the flow of play throughout the match.
