Meet the Class of 2026
Terena Caryk (Athlete: Basketball): A hometown Vincent Massey product who became a cornerstone of BU Women's Basketball. A first-team GPAC all-star and back-to-back Female Athlete of the Year, Caryk led the Bobcats in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots while excelling as an Academic All-Canadian. Today, she shapes higher education as Vice President of Operations and Academics at Robertson College.
Donata Huebert (Athlete: Volleyball): The only three-time recipient of the national libero of the year award in Canadian university history. A native of Germany, Huebert was a two-time All-Canadian and back-to-back BU Female Athlete of the Year whose unmatched defensive consistency set a new standard for the program. She now passes on her expertise as a silver-medal-winning head coach.
Doug Roach (Community Leader): A former Bobcats goaltender and team MVP whose impact stretches across Westman. Roach dedicated decades to coaching and administrating sports in Virden and beyond, serving as commissioner for high school hockey and football leagues, and leading teams to provincial championships. He continues his deep connection to the game as the play-by-play voice of the Virden Oil Capitals.
Sam Tuivai (Athlete: Volleyball): An explosive New Zealand native who brought raw intensity to the Bobcats. Tuivai was a first-team Canada West all-star who dominated offensively, leading the conference in kills per set and powering BU to its first-ever Canada West championship in 2013. He has since become a three-time ACAC Coach of the Year in Alberta.
Scott Neufeld (Athlete: Volleyball): The only Bobcat volleyball player to win three national medals. Known for his poise and defensive brilliance, Neufeld transitioned heroically from a record-setting libero to an outside hitter during the 2013 playoffs, battling through a sprained ankle to help secure a Canada West title and a national bronze medal.
Bruce Thompson (Community Leader): A former Bobcat captain and team MVP who transitioned into a legendary coaching career. A three-time SJHL Coach of the Year and Hall of Fame inductee, Thompson amassed 299 victories before guiding the Regina Cougars for five seasons. His greatest legacy lies in his two decades of dedication as an educator for troubled youth with the Ranch Ehrlo Society.
Kevin Newton (Builder): A pillar of western Manitoba volleyball for over four decades as the region's only nationally certified official. Newton has supervised multiple U SPORTS national championships at BU and mentored countless aspiring referees. As a school principal and coach, his leadership also helped bring 12 provincial championships to Glenboro.
Kevin Neufeld (Builder): A transformative figure in Manitoba volleyball with a coaching career spanning 49 years. Neufeld built high school dynasties at Crocus Plains and Neelin, founded the national-title-winning Storm Volleyball club, and captured Canada Summer Games gold with Team Manitoba. Recently, he led the Assiniboine Cougars to their first MCAC women's championship.
Bobcat Men's Volleyball Teams (2010-2011 & 2012-2013): Two historic squads that answered adversity with unforgettable championship runs. The 2010-2011 team, sparked by Australian star Paul Sanderson, fought back from a 2-6 start to reach the program's first national final. Two years later, the 2012-2013 underdog squad battled through hostile territory to capture Brandon's first Canada West championship and a national bronze medal.
This induction ceremony is more than a look back at historical statistics; it is an opportunity to gather as a community and honor the grit, leadership, and passion that continually elevate Brandon University Athletics. Space in the Imperial Ballroom is limited, so secure your seats early to ensure you are part of this extraordinary morning of Bobcat pride.
