Alumni Spotlight - Teagan Hunter

Brandon-product Teagan Hunter, a former Canada West All-Star and Brandon University school record holder, is coming back to Brandon to help out with the Bobcats.
Hunter will join the likes of Ashley Creighton, Kelly Deroo, Erin Henning, Sara Grona, Jaryn Ruether, Erin Visch-Krahn, and Becky Young as former players who have served as assistants to the Bobcats women's volleyball program.

Hunter returns to BU after a two-year stint in which she played pro volleyball in Europe – one season in Denmark, and one very successful season with Stod Volley in Norway.

In her final pro year she helped Stod Volley to one of the most successful pro seasons the club, and any Norwegian Club for that matter, has ever had.

The former left-side played right-side for Stod Volley last season, capturing the Northern European Volleyball Zonal Association title before reaching the quarterfinals in the European Volleyball Confederation Championship.

Following such a successful season the 25 year-old decided it was time call it quits as a player, and is now coming back to her hometown of Brandon to work as an assistant coach with the Bobcats women's volleyball team.

"I can't see myself in Brandon without BU, because it's become part of my life and I love this place," says Hunter. "I feel that I need to be a part of the program again."

Hunter concluded her playing eligibility with numerous school records, and her name all over the Canada West Universities Athletic Association record book. The Vincent Massey High School grad was a starter her entire five-year career at BU, finishing fourth all-time in Canada West kills, and holding the school record for career digs and points.

"The experience helped me grow as a person, and not only as a player. I can't ask for anything better," says Hunter. "With everything that we accomplished, it's a good way to end my career I am happy with that. It was an awesome experience for sure."

Hunter's hope is to now impart some of her experience and knowledge to young players in the same situation she was in seven years ago.

"I am hoping to bring what I learned overseas from the coaches and the great players that I played with, to use that knowledge to develop these players. I also want to give back to these girls at a stage where they can learn so much and take away so much."
