Diego Rodriguez is certainly no stranger to Brandon University soccer, and now he'll have the opportunity to lead the Bobcats.
The long-time leader in the Brandon soccer scene has been named head coach of the Bobcats women's program.
Having been involved in various capacities since the program's inception, Rodriguez has assisted both the men's and women's teams and enjoyed a stint as the head coach of the ACC Cougars.
He's also the father of two of the program's great players, and is now tasked with ushering in the next era of Bobcat women's soccer.
"I've been working with the team for a long time and I'm very happy to have this opportunity," says Rodriguez. "My goal has always been to do what's best for BU. If that means sharing my knowledge of soccer, trying to motivate or inspire the team, or just working hard every day, that's what I've always done and will continue to do."
Rodriguez spent the last term leading the women's program through the futsal season as Interim coach after
Orlin Chalmers stepped down from the position after leading the Bobcats to the program's first MCAC banner since 2017.
Rodriguez is also no stranger to the Brandon and Westman soccer scene, having coached multiple levels and age groups in both indoor and outdoor competition.
"Diego has been a steadying influence on the women's soccer program in his previous roles in the team. He has extensive knowledge and develops strong rapport with the student athletes. We look forward to leadership he brings to the head coaching role," says BU Athletic Director Russ Paddock.
Born and raised in Colombia where Rodriguez reached the professional level as a player, now his focus is the excitement for the opportunity to lead the program into the next era.
"I've played all my life. I absolutely love soccer. It's part of my life," says Rodriguez. "It's more than just the person behind the ball though. It's about developing people for life. If we can provide the young people on the team with the skills to be successful in the sport I believe it translates to success in life."
