Shanlee McLennan is in the final semester of her five-year career as a Bobcat, but she's certainly not playing like she's in the twilight of her career. In fact, it's been much the opposite, as the team captain has been dominant the past month, and carried her team to a perfect 6-0 record in January.
After being named Canada West third star of the week two weeks ago, the Winnipeg product had an outstanding weekend, earning her the conference's top honours as first star of the week. This past weekend, McLennan recorded 16 kills, 20 digs, and one ace in Friday's 3-1 win over Winnipeg, then followed that up with a career night and a school record. McLennan had 13 kills, 10 digs, eight aces in a 3-2 win. The eight aces broke a six year-old school record, and is tied for the second most in a Canada West match.
Her performance in the entire month has been spectacular, recording five straight double-doubles, averaging 3.2 kills per set and 3.0 digs per set in the past month, which ranks her among conference leaders in that span.
 
In putting up dazzling numbers in January, McLennan is now chasing a Canada West all-time record. She sits with 129 career aces entering this weekend, just five shy of the all-time conference record. Alberta alum Jaki Ellis currently holds the Canada West record with 133 career aces.
