While many take time to adjust to the jump from high school to university ranks, Dauphin'sÂ
Sami Love has shone in her first few months of competition.
Â
In just her first season with the Bobcats the 6-foot middle has risen above the competition in the middle position, and now sits among conference leaders in blocks per set (1.24) and total blocks (46).
Â
More importantly, Love's net presence and strong serving game has helped the Bobcats to a 7-5 record, good for a fifth-place tie in conference standings. She also ranks third on her team in kills (69) and points (109.5).
Â
"Sami has been great for us so far this season," says women's volleyball interim head coachÂ
Kevin Neufeld. "She is a great teammate and always willing to do what is asked of her to make both herself and our team better. We are so pleased with how she is playing so far and we are excited for her future as a Bobcat."
Â
Love becomes the first rookie member of the Bobcats women's volleyball team to be named Athlete of the Month sinceÂ
Donata Huebert did so in November of 2010.
Â
Love and the BU women's volleyball team now enjoy the December break before resuming Canada West action in the New Year when they travel to Calgary to play the U of C Dinos on Jan. 12-13. Next home action for the Bobcats comes the weekend of Jan. 19-20 against the UBC-Okanagan Heat.
