Box Score BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats picked up a 3-0 (25-21, 30-28, 25-13) win, but it was anything but easy as the Mount Royal Cougars put up a fight.
The Bobcats were slow out of the gates, as Mount Royal stormed to an early 10-4 lead in the first set, living up to their previous 6-2 record. The Bobcats clawed their way back mid-way through the first before putting it away on a kill by freshman middle
Ty Moorman, his third of the set.
The second set was even more of a grind as the two teams exchanged blows, the biggest lead being two points for Mount Royal at 3-1 and 16-14. The teams also exchanged set points before Brandon ended it on a Colton deMan error.
Brandon found their groove in the third and cruised to a big victory.
Sam Tuivai led the charge for Brandon with 13 kills, while
Dan Boutwell and
Brendan White both put up eight kills.
David Stasica put up a match-high 31 assists and eight digs.
For the Cougars, deMan had a match-high 14 kills. Jordan Parkin had eight kills and Tommy Lyon had six blocks.
The win improves Brandon's record to 5-4 while Mount Royal falls to 6-3. The two teams will meet again Saturday night.
