The University of Calgary Dinos got some revenge in their home-opener at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium Friday night, beating a Brandon team that defeated them in their last contest a season ago.
The Dinos improved to 3-0 in the early season, after beating the Bobcats 82-71.
In their season series last year, Brandon won the second game 65-61.
Calgary got off to a big start in the first quarter, taking the lead 28-18, sparked by LJ Hegwood who scored 11 points off the bench in the opening frame, including finishing an alley-oop with time running out.
From then on, the Bobcats pushed, but never trimmed their deficit by more than five points the rest of the game. They would make it 36-31 in the second quarter, but that's as close as they would get, as the Dinos led by double digits the entire third quarter and most of the fourth.
Offensively the Dinos were led by fifth-year point guard Jarred Ongungbemi-Jackson, who after getting this teammates involved through three quarters with only eight points himself, scored 12 in the fourth to finish with 20, as well as seven rebounds.
The Dinos continued to shoot the ball well at 45.8 per cent for the game and they also rebounded the Bobcats 47-36.
Brandon was led by
Kenonte Ramsey, who finished with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.
D.J. Jordan had 17 points through three quarters, but went scoreless in the fourth. The Bobcats now drop to 0-3 on the season after losing to Lethbridge last weekend.
Calgary's aggressive play also led to success at the free-throw line, getting to the charity stripe 25 times and they hit 23 free throws. Brandon went 11-15.
The Bobcats were held to 35 per cent shooting from the field, taking 33 three-point shots, but only hitting eight of them.
Second in scoring for the Dinos was Hegwood, who after his hot first quarter, finished the game with 15, as the Dinos bench outscored Brandon's 36-5.
