Bobcats fall to Bears in Wesmen Classic semi-final

The University of Alberta Golden Bears advanced to the championship final of the 2014 Coca Cola University Men's Classic with a thrilling 70-66 victory over the Brandon University Bobcats.

Alberta will face the Winnipeg Wesmen in the Championship Final Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.

Brandon had control of the contest after the opening 20 minutes heading into the halftime break with a 43-33 lead. The third quarter was the telling story, Alberta outscored the Bobcats 12-1 in the quarter to take a 45-44 lead into the final quarter.

In a back and forth final quarter, Alberta hung on outscoring the Bobcats 25-22 to make the final tally 70-66. Joel Friesen led Alberta with 20 points, including four-three pointers. Mamadou Gueye had a double-double consisting of 19 points and 17 rebounds.

DJ Jordan led Brandon with 22 points. Earl Thompson Jr added 11. Brandon will face Manitoba in the third place game Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
