Pandas answer back from Friday loss with win

BRANDON – After dropping a grueling five-set match to the host Bobcats Friday, the Alberta Pandas answered back with a 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-17) win Saturday at BU's Healthy Living Centre.

Despite the loss, the Bobcats clinch a playoff spot in the Canada West conference thanks to MacEwan's loss to Regina.

Both teams fought it out early in the first set, but the Pandas managed to gain a six point lead at 16-10 and the Bobcats couldn't recover, losing the set 25-17.
The second set saw Brandon keep pace with the Pandas, eventually serving for match point at 24-22, but they were unable to close out the set with the Pandas fighting back and winning in extra points at 28-26.

In the third, the Alberta attack proved to be too strong for the Bobcats to withstand, earning a 20-12 lead, before winning 25-17.

Shanlee McLennan led the 'Cats with 12 kills and six digs. Fifth-year Tori Dakin added six kills and 12 digs.

Dionne Lang paced the Pandas with 13 kills, four digs, and three blocks. Meg Cassault notched 11 kills, eight digs, and two blocks.

The game was an emotional one for BU as it was the last home game of the regular season. Head coach Lee Carter was pleased with how his seniors finished off the evening.

"I'm very proud of Tori and Meaghan and how they stood up to the pressure of playing at home tonight. They're two very classy individuals," says Carter.
Looking forward to next weekend, Carter is confident that his squad can gain momentum for next week's road trip.

"We have a chance to continue improving this week through practices so that we can keep building on our performances this weekend," added Carter.
The win brings the Pandas record to 17-5, while the Bobcats fall to 13-9.

Up next, the Bobcats will travel to UBC-Okanagan to take on the Heat. Alberta will close out their season at home against Mount Royal at home.
