Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats turnover Pronghorns for first win of the season

Lethbridge – The Bobcats women's basketball team picked up its first win conference win of the season, and in convincing fashion, beating the host Pronghorns 83-63 Friday night.

'Horns guard Zoe Dahl scored a game high 27 points but it was lack of ball security that proved to be the team's demise tonight, turning the ball over 31 times on the night. Dahl was 10-21 from the field, including 7-12 from behind the arc.

Freshman Katie Keith had a solid debut for the 'Horns, scoring 11 points, to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

For the Bobcats, Alyssa Montgomery led the way with 20 points, while Kylee Howard poured in 16 points and Keisha Cox chipped in with 15 of her own.

Adams is in his first season with the women's program after leaving his post as the head coach with the men's program three years ago. Adams spent three seasons as the men's head coach from 2009 to 2013.

Following a tight opening quarter that finished with a slim two points (21-19) Brandon advantage the Bobcats created some separation in the second quarter with a 17-2 run and held a 43-31 lead at the break.

The Bobcats were solid from the field in the first half, shooting better than 48% from the floor and 38% from behind the arc, while the 'Horns shot 37.9% from the field and a smoking 6 for 11 from behind the arc but 18 turnovers in the half gave the Bobcats important extra possessions.

The 'Horns were able to draw within six points in the third quarter, but that would be as close as they could get, with the Bobcats outscoring the 'Horns 19-18 in the third and 22-13 in the fourth.

On the night, the Bobcats were 42.2% from the field but were only 1 for 8 from behind the arc in the second half. The 'Horns 39% for the night and 50% from three.

The loss drops the 'Horns to 0-1 on the season and Brandon earns their first win and improves to 1-2 on the season.

The 'Horns and Bobcats will wrap up their weekend set tomorrow night, tip-off is set from 5:00pm and the game will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
