BRANDON - The Brandon University men's volleyball team dropped a marathon five-set decision against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday night to close out their Canada West weekend series.

The set scores were 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 15-13.

The Bobcats and Heat went back-and-forth to start Saturday's rematch with the first set tied 19-19 at the Healthy Living Centre.

Brandon then took six of the next seven points to draw first blood in the contest 25-20.

In the second set, the Bobcats held a 16-12 advantage at the technical timeout and stretched their lead to 20-17 and grabbed a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-22 victory in the second.

The Heat turned the tables after that and evened the match to force a fifth and final set with momentum on their side.

In the fifth set, Brandon got off to a strong start with a 4-0 lead, but UBC Okanagan responded with four straight points of their own.

The Bobcats were up 8-6 at the turn, but the Heat once again rallied off four straight points for a 10-8 advantage.

The two sides exchanged points after that with Brandon eventually tying the fifth set 13-13.

The Bobcats were called for a carried ball on the next point and then Adam Kern dialed up a service ace for the winning point for UBC Okanagan.

Roy Ching collected a match-high 18 kills and 11 digs for the Bobcats, who saw their record slip to 4-and-6.

Lars Bornemann was the top scorer for the Heat with 16 kills, while adding a match-high nine blocks as UBC Okanagan improved to 2-and-8.
