Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats beat Bisons extending win streak to four games

BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats picked up their fourth straight win Saturday night, but the significance isn't in the score as much as what it means. In beating the Manitoba Bisons 75-67, the Bobcats move to 4-2 on the season, the best record entering the December break for the Bobcats since 1983.

The Bobcats started the game much like Friday, storming out of the gate offensively and putting pressure on the Bisons on the defensive end.

The Bisons trailed by as much as 16, but battled back in the fourth quarter to tie it at 66-66. But just like the night before, the Bobcats settled down, and made two huge baskets, a 3-pointer by Kaela Cranston and a transition lay-up by Alyssa Montgomery, extending BU's lead to 71-66, which proved to be enough of a cushion to give the Bobcats the victory.

"We have to learn how to maintain composure, and be able to hold leads," says Bobcats coach Novell Thomas. "Overall, we're happy with being 4-2, and we have to continue to prepare with a sense of urgency because we have nothing but solid opponents moving forward."

Four Bobcats finished in double-digit scoring, led by Keisha Cox and Amy Williams who each put up 17 points. Williams had a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds, while Cox finished one rebound short of a double-double with nine. Forward Alyssa Montgomery continued her great start to the season by recording 14 points, while Kaela Cranston contributed 11 points.

The Bisons were paced by Emma Thompson who had 22 points, three assists and three rebounds, while Jenilyn Monton had 14 points and three assists.
The loss keeps Manitoba winless on the season at 0-8.

The Bobcats close the first half of the season off on a high note. Next home action for the Bobcats will on January 7 when the 'Cats welcome the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Manitoba Bisons next game is January 8 as they head to Victoria to play the Vikes.
