BRANDON – The Bobcats keep the game close through the first three quarters, but it wasn't enough to contain the visiting Victoria Vikes who picked up a 72-55 win and the weekend sweep.
The Bobcats hung around through the first three quarters, even taking the lead at 44-43 on a
Kylee Howard three. The Vikes answered right back however, ending the frame on a 9-0 run. The Vikes wouldn't look back, starting the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, en route to a 72-55 victory.
Goodis' record setting performance was one to remember, notching 14 points, six rebounds, and eight assists, which earned her the all-time assists record in the Canada West record book. Fellow fifth-year Jessica Renfrew added 14 points and grabbed nine boards, just one shy of a double-double.
Brandon was paced by
Kylee Howard with 14 points and three boards.
Amy Williams added 10 points and eight rebounds and
Stephanie Haynes notched six points and eight rebounds in her final game as a Bobcat.
Brandon had their work cut out for them this evening, something that was not unnoticed by BU head coach Novel Thomas.
"Victoria is a good team fighting for playoff position, and it showed. I thought we battled at times, but we weren't there mentally at times," says Thomas.
Thought the playoffs are out of reach for the Bobcats this season, Thomas is optimistic for what the future holds for his team.
"There has definitely been growth this season. There has been some tremendous development in our interior players which is exciting to see. The development is sometimes hard to see past the record, but it's another year under our belt and we're going to move forward from here," added Thomas.
The win improves Victoria's record to 11-7 while the Bobcats end the season at 3-19. Last weekend is technically the final weekend of the Canada West basketball regular season, but Brandon will have a bye weekend.
Up next, the Vikes will host the Trinity Western Spartans at home to close out the Canada West regular season next weekend.
