BRANDON - The Brandon University men's basketball team dropped a 68-54 decision against the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday night at the Healthy Living Centre in Canada West action.
The Bobcats pushed the pace early and finished the first quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 18-13 and at the halftime break their lead was 30-28.

In the second half, the Golden Bears grabbed the momentum with a 14-4 run and after the third quarter they were on top 50-41.

The Bobcats deficit was 53-43 in the early stages of the fourth, before Brandon battled back with an 11-4 run to make it a three point game with 5:31 remaining.

Brandon would get no closer then that with the Bears going on an 11-0 run to close out the contest.

Chris Stanhope was the top scorer for Brandon with 11 points, while teammate
Earl Thompson Jr. added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Pookie Saunders was next with nine points as the Bobcats slipped to 0-and-12 on the season.

"We are in a tough spot right now," said Saunders. "We know what we got to do to fix it and we are going to come out better next week."

Mamadou Gueye got a game-high 18 points as the Golden Bears upped their record to 7-and-6.

Colby Jackson added 17 points and Brody Clarke finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards for Alberta.

Next up for the Bobcats will be a road trip to Langley, B.C. this coming weekend for games against the Trinity Western Spartans.

Meanwhile, the Golden Bears will look to build on their back-to-back wins when they visit the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
