Ching reaches major milestone in BU win

BRANDON – Roy Ching reached a major milestone and his Brandon Bobcats made quick work of the seventh-ranked Calgary Dinos in the process on Friday night.

Ching reached 1,000 career kills, as his Bobcats knocked off the Dinos in straight sets in Canada West men's volleyball action.

The set scores were 25-22, 25-20 and 25-17.

The U Sport all-Canadian becomes just the third Bobcat in program history to hit the 1,000 kill plateau. Ching joins BU legends Paul Sanderson and Sam Tuivai on that impressive list.

Bobcats' coach Grant Wilson is proud of Ching's accomplishment.

"Roy is a special player. He is a real workhorse and knows the game really well," said Wilson. "He is a high-level player that is starting to get a little bit more recognition. He has been behind some pretty big shadows over the years here and it is great to see him reach those pinnacles."

Ching collected 14 kills on the night and now stands at 1,005 for his career, while Matt Powell provided 12 kills for the BU men's team.

The New Zelander's special night went hand in hand with a strong performance by his Bobcats, who extended their winning streak to four straight.

Brandon sits with an overall record of 4-and-1, while Calgary slipped to 1-and-4 with the loss.

The Bobcats will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they play the Dinos in the rematch at 6:45 p.m. at the Healthy Living Centre.
