BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats picked up a weekend sweep over the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack Saturday night to move to 3-1 on the season.
It was even fast than Friday's win, taking it in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) thanks to a tremendous effort at the net. The Bobcats had 23 total blocks to the WolfPack's nine, and also won the attacking game, scoring at a .238 efficiency compared to TRU's .081.
The Bobcats trailed early in the first and third sets, but managed to stifle any momentum the WolfPack attempted to build.
Brandon was led by fifth-year outside hitter
Roy Ching, whose team-high 11 kills came on 27 swings to go with just two errors. Freshman
Elliott Viles had eight kills to go with two service aces, while
James Weir contributed seven blocks.
Randy Grundmann had a match-high 13 kills while Charlie Bringloe had nine kills, but also had 10 errors. Rookie setter Jakob Hamilton's 28 assists were a match-high, and libero Cole Keddie's eight digs were a match-high as well.
The win improves Brandon's record to 3-1, while Thompson Rivers remains winless at 0-4.
The WolfPack will play their home-opener next weekend in Kamloops, while Brandon has a bye-weekend.
