BRANDON – The Brandon University Bobcats bounced the Regina Cougars in straight sets on Thursday in a rare matinee match at the Healthy Living Centre in Canada West men's volleyball action.
The set scores were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17.
In the first set, the Bobcats picked up four straight points to grab an early 5-2 lead. BU surged ahead 21-12 after scoring seven straight points. The Cougars clawed back with a late 6-2 run, but Brandon held down the fort to strike first in the match.
Brandon put together a strong second set and another 7-0 run helped them push the Cougars to the brink.
The third set was a bit more back and forth, but an 8-2 Bobcats' run did enough damage to keep the Brandon in the drivers seat en route to sweeping the contest.
Elliott Viles was Brandon's top scorer with seven kills, while adding nine digs for the Bobcats.
BU spread the offence around with
James Weir,
Roy Ching and
Matt Powell providing five kills apiece as the Bobcats improved to 8-and-5.
Matthew Aubrey led the match with 11 kills for Regina, who remain winless on the season at 0-and-11.
Brandon will look to complete the sweep of the Cougars on Friday with the rematch set for 6:45 p.m. start at the HLC.
