BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats took one step closer to recording the team's best season record since joining Canada West with a 71-57 win over the MacEwan Griffins in a rare afternoon contest on Friday.
The Bobcats have never had more than seven wins in a conference season since joining the Canada West conference in the 1999-2000 season. Friday's win moves Brandon's record to 6-7, and gives the Bobcats the chance to move back to the .500 mark for the second time this season.
Brandon lost the turnover battle to MacEwan, but managed to come out on top behind a solid shooting effort, shooting 42 per cent from the floor and out-rebounding the Griffins 53-35.
Keisha Cox continued her stellar play finishing with a double-double, good for 18 points and 15 rebounds. Cox also added to her team lead in assists with six.
Amy Williams came off the bench for 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Griffins had two players finish in double figures with Juhee Thompson registering 14 points while Kendall Lydon finished with 11.
Brandon has now won four of their last five conference games, while MacEwan has lost four in a row.
The two teams will conclude the weekend series in Brandon on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
