WINNIPEG - The Brandon Bobcats picked up a big straight sets win over provincial rival Winnipeg Wesmen in a rare Tuesday night Canada West volleyball match by set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 26-24
The young Wesmen team battled in every set and came to life in the third set contesting the Bobcats on every point and went down to the wire, however, a few unforced errors gave Brandon the match.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was Nikala Majewski who had 17 kills and six digs. Majewski was the very much the go-to player for Brandon, being set 42 times. The Winnipeg product ended up with a .333 hitting percentage. Rayvn Wiebe was next in kills with nine on 17 attempts for a percentage of .353
The Wesmen were led by Kalena Schulz who finished with seven kills and four digs. Ashleigh Laube was second in team kills with five, while first-year player Emma Parker had a strong defensive game and had a team-high 12 digs.
The two teams travel west on Friday to Brandon to play the final of the home and way series. Match time is 6:00 pm CST.
