Basketball reunion on final home stretch

BRANDON - The final countdown is on to the College Caps/Bobcats basketball reunion.
 
The event is held in conjunction with Brandon University's 50th-anniversary Homecoming celebrations.
 
  • Two screenings of Powerhouse on the Prairies
  • Saturday alumni games at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm
  • Wall of Fame induction brunch nearly sold out for Saturday, Oct. 13
  • Pre-season games involving current Bobcat men's basketball, women's basketball and women's volleyball teams

Close to 200 basketball alumni and guests are expected to take part in the hoops spectacle from October 11-14.
 
Former players, coaches and staff can take a trip down memory lane at the Evans Theatre where two screenings of the documentary 'Powerhouse on the Prairies' will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 3:30 p.m. The film highlights the three straight national titles that the Bobcat men's basketball team won the 1980's.
 
On Friday night, reunion attendees can mix and mingle with incoming and past inductees into the Brandon University Sports Wall of Fame with a kickoff reception at the Healthy Living Centre.
 
The 2018 induction class is loaded with hoops legends with Courtney Bailey, Earnest Bell, Lynda Kidd Chorley, Linda Edwards Forsyth, Brian Pallister, Euan Roberts and Marie Rohleder being honoured as individuals. The 1979-80 men's team and the 1980-81 women's team are also being enshrined.
 
Limited tickets are still available for the 2018-induction ceremony at the Victoria Inn Grand Salon, which begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
 
Meanwhile, three alumni games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the HLC. Men's players from the 2000s will start things off at 3 p.m., the women's contest tips off at 4 p.m. with the vintage Bobcats' game at 5 p.m. **Lineup is subject to change**

5 p.m. - Bobcat pre-season women's volleyball match versus the Manitoba Bisons (Henry Champ)

7 p.m. - Bobcat pre-season women's basketball game versus the Winnipeg Wesmen (HLC)
