WolfPack continue winning ways

BRANDON, Man. – Rojhae Colbert pulled off some matinee magic to power the Thompson Rivers WolfPack to an 83-76 road win over the Brandon Bobcats in Canada West men's basketball action on Friday afternoon.

Colbert had back-to-back slam dunks late in the fourth quarter as the WolfPack picked up their fourth straight win and improved their conference record to 10-3.

"I think it was a big momentum builder. It got our bench into it big time and it gave our players more energy to keep going," said Colbert, who had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Thompson Rivers raced out to a 17-8 lead in the opening quarter thanks to a 9-0 run. Shun Williams single handily got the Bobcats back into it by scoring eight straight points as BU trailed 19-18.

Brendan Sullivan scored an acrobatic layup and Anton Bilous drained a dagger from downtown off a Bobcat turnover to re-store TRU's cushion to 25-18 after the first.

In the second, the Bobcats cut the deficit to three, but the WolfPack replied with a buzzer beater by Bilous to go up 45-35 at the halftime break.

Bilous started the third quarter on fire from beyond the arc as he hit back-to-back three pointers. Brandon got within striking distance at 62-58, but Richard Mageto's three pointer with 41 seconds left padded the lead for Thompson Rivers.

The Bobcats almost closed the gap with a minute left in the final frame. Haashim Wallace had a chance to cut it to two but tried to dunk on a TRU player and missed.

Shun Williams scored a game-high 27 points for the Bobcats, who have had seven games go down to the wire.

"It is a battle every game for us," said Williams. "We just have to figure out how to close out games and limit our mistakes."

The Bobcats and WolfPack meet in the rematch on Saturday night at the Healthy Living Centre.
