BRANDON, Man. – The Brandon Bobcats picked up their first win of the conference season in style, beating the Thompson Rivers
Friday's afternoon contest was the highest scoring affair for Brandon so far this season, and the nearly 900 school-aged children in attendance could have provided the necessary boost.
Sydney Teece made her first start of the season and provided a spark on the boards and on the scoreboard, hitting an early 3 on Brandon's first possession.
Teece didn't slow down from there either, shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc on the afternoon.
"Hitting those three's definitely helped my confidence, so every open look I got I just knew that I could shoot it and that it had a pretty good chance of going in," said
Sydney Teece.

Kelsey Starchuck had nine points in the first half, as did
Adrianna Proulx.
Slow starts to the second half have plagued the Bobcats so far this season, but that wasn't the case Friday as Brandon scored more points in the second half than the first, which also marked a first for the team this season.
Proulx put up a game-high 19 points while Starchuck finished with a season-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds.
"It was great to finally get that win. We had the best start we've had all season and we kept that through-out all four quarters," said Proulx.
The Bobcats shot 8-for-12 from beyond the arc and 57 per cent from the floor.
Thompson Rivers was led by Jordin Wilkinson's team-high 13 points while Jordon Haggerty chipped in 12.
The two teams meet again in the second half of the weekend series at the BU Health Living Centre for what will be the Bobcats' Shoot for the Cure game. The team will be raising funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as part of the national initiative.
Tip-off in Saturday's game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
